On October 13th, we will celebrate the 244th birthday of the The United States Navy! Throughout the month of October there will be many Navy Balls taking place with great food, lots of dancing, and the wonderful tradition of having the youngest sailor present cut the cake with the oldest sailor present. This is always one of my most favorite moments of the night. (Also, I really love cake!).
My husband and I started the birthday celebration off by attending the Performance of the Navy Band at the Music Center at Strathmore in Bethesda, MD. I have to say, when my husband told me we would be attending the performance, I wasn't overly thrilled.... the performance started at 8pm and you never know how long it will take to drive on the beltway. What I can tell you is that I was mesmerized by the performance. The talent of the Navy band and the performers was top notch. I was tapping my feet and enjoying every minute.
On October 12th I will be attending the Navy Ball here in DC. I am looking forward to honoring and celebrating all the sailors of the past and the more than 300,000 currently on active duty and around 100,000 in the Navy Reserve.
