are so many directions, and you're
not sure where to go
Where Do I Start?
Did you know that you don’t have to be separated from the military to work with us? The sooner you work on your post-military career game plan, the smoother your transition will be. You’ll be equipped right away with a coach to guide you and to motivate and encourage you throughout the process. Prepare to ask yourself tough questions, and to wholeheartedly reflect on where and what you want to be.
When Do I Start?
Probably one of the biggest questions you’ll need to ask yourself is WHEN do I want to start my new career? Currently, the average job search takes 6-9 months, so if you want to jump into a new job right after getting out, you’ll have to start sooner. Choose the approximate date that you want to be employed by and work backward. For example, if you want to be employed by August 1st, you’ll want to start your job search process no later than February 1st, giving you approximately 6 months to search for, apply to, interview for, and accept an offer on a position.
How Do I Start?
The exciting part (and totally not scary at all, right?) about your transition is a fresh start. Do you want to continue doing what you’ve been doing for the military, or something completely different? It’s almost like being in 1st Grade again thinking about what you want to be when you grow up. What excites you? What can you envision yourself doing? When you have an idea of where you want to go and what you want to do, your next step is to research.
What position in the industry do you want?
What training and certifications do you need?
What’s the average expected salary?
What experience do you have that can transfer?
If you need more training or accreditation for the position you want, what can you do while getting those? Are there other positions you can hold while you work your way into the position you want?
There are a few great tools that help you translate your skills here and here into “civilian speak.” Once you have a good idea of how your skills can fit into the civilian side, let us help you build your resume and strengthen your interview skills.
