Meet Wilmer and Sandra Ferrer

Wilmer & Sandra FerrerSandra Ferrer’s Comments:

As a reservist spouse, I do not face all
of the same difficulties that an active
duty spouse does but we do have similar
situations that we share.

One of those situations is deployment
and activation.

Wilmer was activated and sent to Iraq
for a 15-month tour.

It was very difficult due to the time zone differences. I would stay awake
at night glued to the computer hoping to hear from him. Whenever there
is a natural disaster, there is the potential that he will be activated.

Being married to a reservist is difficult as he is required to train once a
month and fulfill a two week annually where he furthers his training.
We feel very blessed that a program such as the MSCCN exists to aid
in educating corporate America into taking a stand in the employment
of military spouses and equally blessed that Concentra hired both of us.

Concentra Recruiter’s Comments:

It was a conscious effort to get Wilmer and Sandra hired. We searched
long and hard to find jobs that fit them both. Wilmer and Sandra were
both extremely flexible.

They interviewed multiple times with multiple managers. They shared
a car and I would see Wilmer pick up Sandra at lunch, feeling bad that
I still didn't have a position yet for him. Because of the commitment
that Concentra has with our military, they stuck with us.

Today, Sandra and Wilmer are both employed and doing exceptionally
well. Both have the potential for advanced opportunities in supervisory
roles. Recently, Wilmer was called into short term training duty.
Although he has only been employed a short time, we miss him and
can't wait for his return.

Concentra not only keeps his position waiting for him but offers
differential pay to supplement his military pay in his absence so that
the family does not become burdened. Last but not least, the
Concentra staff warmly offers his spouse Sandra support in anything
she needs in his absence.

Sandra was hired November 15, 2005. Wilmer was hired January 24, 2006.
