MSCCN Applicants' Success Stories

No one will ever truly know the blood, sweat and tears the MSCCN Team of Talent Management Specialists place
into each applicant they touch. MSCCN is so much more than an employment and training program. My MSCCN Team of professional military spouses value each military-affiliated candidate's story and situation. Every candidate has a story and a situation, believe me. MSCCN decided a long time ago that if we were to serve our applicants properly and thoughtfully, we would first LISTEN to their needs. Often times JUST listening to candidates helps the MSCCN Talent Management Team determine the readiness of each applicant for a job. I'd like to point out two stories of success the MSCCN has become particularly proud of: The first story involves Maria Cottrell, a Marine Corps spouse caregiver to a war wounded Marine. Please find the full story on the second page here. Maria is now a viable Team Member of the MSCCN Program due to one of our reintegration programs, the MSCCN's "First Step Caregiver Employment Program". The second story involves a candidate who became very discouraged and down-trodden during her job search journey. It wasn't until the MSCCN truly LISTENED and sincerely CARED about her story and situation, that she found the courage to get back out into the job market. The applicant landed her dream job because she followed the guidance of the MSCCN Team. Please read her story, Bringing On Your "A" Game, by Kate Midden, MSCCN Director of Gateway Management and Developmen, here. Upon reading her story in volume 6, issue 1 of the MSEJ, "M" wrote to Kate: Kate, Your article was amazing! I am so excited. I sent it to everyone I know, especially my military friends. Thank you so much! Your organization is so awesome. I have been getting my husband to spread the word about MSCCN to new people that check into his shop with spouses. M C P.S. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new job! I am so glad I held out for the right job. |

Sherri8/11/2010 Hello Emily (MSCCN), I got the job that I wanted at EDMC Online Higher Education Management Corporation as a Admission Representative. YEAH!!!!!!!! Those questions you helped me come up with paid off. This is truly a blessing. I got the offer letter today! Thank you for believing in me and being my friend!!!!!!! Sincerly, Sherri Covington BrennaDeb - I recently was selected for my first full time job in a decade. They raved about my resume. I had to confess to the hiring manager that I modeled it after the tutorial on MSCCN! I had Word open in one window and the tutorial in another one as put it together. It is by far the best resume resource out there--for anyone, not just milspouses! I didn't even have a current resume when my friend suggested I apply for the position. I took a few hours and put it together, sent it in and quite honestly expected a "thanks but no thanks" email. I'm still shocked that I was selected for the position. I never would have gotten past the initial screening without MSCCN's help. Thanks again, Brenna Berger Laci (CA) (started her job in June, 2010) wrote in May: Hey Amy (Schofield)! I am waiting to hear back from a job now! I applied for it in August and they didn't call until April! I already took a physical just waiting on a start date! I will let you know! The biggest problem I ran into with finding a job is not reading EVERYTHING! If you miss anything they will not accept your application! You must make sure you read everything and send in all attachments! They should also apply as soon as they know they are moving! I know when my husband get orders again I will start applying ASAP! Thank you sooo much for all your help! if there is anything I can do or help with just let me know!!! Rebecca (CA) wrote: Kate!! Guess what? I am writing you this email from my desk ... I got the job with Zeiders Enterprises, I am a Work and Family Life Consultant!!!!!!!!!! Today is my 8th day, and training is almost complete, and I am sooooooo excited! Thanks for all of your support and friendship. Thanks again, and if you need anything, you've got a contact for life inside the FFSC here… Joyce (DC) also thanked Kate and Amy: Hello Kate - I would like to thank you and Amy once again for helping me with the interview. The interview went well from my perspective. From the interviewer's side, he wanted an informal interview, which made the situation less stressful. The interviewer did ask why I opted for the administration field and asked why I was switching to a different field. I don't recall the exact answer I gave him, but it was an honest answer, and I believe he was content with my answer. I found out this morning that I WAS SELECTED!!! i was told by the interviewer that all three applicants were competitive, and the recruiter for the company told me the same situation. Frankly, I'm blessed to be even considered as a final candidate. The recruiter will be sending me the official notice tomorrow and the documents. I can't wait to start working. It's a different field of admin, but it is one that I am looking forward to learning - and learning well. Thank you very much for all your assistance. Regards, Latasha (MS) loves her new work-at-home position: Dear Mrs. Kate I am happy to let you know that I am working now for Convergys. I am loving the job field. I have been there about 2 weeks now and I took a test today and passed it on the first try. I am so happy right now working at home. I am determined to work hard at Convergys and hopefully get a position down the road in Human Resources with them. My goal is to finish college from AIU and get a higher position at Convergys. I would like to thank you Mrs. Kate for helping me to get this job and keeping me determined that I would find a job out there. You are a best friend that I will never forget. God bless you. Thank You, |

MSCCN was informed that a war wounded applicant who was assisted by
MSCCN / VetConnectJobs was hired for one of the hot jobs advertised on
the MSCCN website. Matthew (on left in picture above) told us his
personal mission was to help other warriors and their family members on
their journey to recovery. He said the Community Outreach position was
the answer to his prayers, knowing it would change his life and give him
the opportunity to continue to serve his fellow Marines. You can read

Dustin W. heard about the MSCCN from Marine Corps Family Services and uploaded her resume on the MSCCN website while in the midst of relocating from Marietta, GA to the Northern VA area. She quickly took advantage of our services and applied to several positions listed on our website, including a position at NMFA - National Military Family Association - in Alexandria, VA for a Legislative Administrative Assistant. Her interview went very well and Dustin emailed us that she loved the people and the NMFA organization. Dustin started her new position with NMFA - not in the position for which she originally applied, but as the Youth Initiatives Assistant. Dustin absolutely loves her job and says "finding MSCCN fresh after moving to the DC area alone (her husband was deployed to Afghanistan) was an absolute blessing". MSCCN thanks NMFA for notifying us of their job openings and Marine Corps Family Services for sending Dustin our way ... teamwork makes things happen! We are so pleased that we could assist Dustin in her successful job search and that hearing Dustin's story encourages other spouses as they face their job search challenges. |

Annalise is the offspring of a military service member who was
referred to the MSCCN. She sent a cover letter and resume to the
MSCCN and requested advice for pursuing an internship in legal
enterprises. MSCCN quickly coached Annalise on resume enhancements and referred her to resources in her
local area. Annalise quickly reported back to MSCCN that the resume advice was perfect and that seven out of the eight employers called her for an interview. She accepted a position with The People's Court in New York City. |

MSCCN Applicant Virtual Job Placement at Gant Travel
|

In the Words of Melissa Connell, Army Spouse, Fort Campbell I have been a travel agent for 12 years prior to my husbands’ first deployment. I stopped working in 2002 due to starting a family and deployment. We have moved every year since 2004 and I could not commit to a company. I then decided to pursue a work from home position. While searching I came across the MSCCN web site and posted my resume. A few months later I received a call about a position with a company out of Chicago to work virtually from home. Approximately 2 weeks later I was offered the position. I believe that if not for the help of MSCCN I would not have found this opportunity. Thank you! |

I am proud to announce the job placement of our MSCCN applicant, San Hains, into the Concentra organization. Hains was born and raised in Louisiana, and is a proud, prior military servicemember of the United States Coast Guard. Hains came to MSCCN with excellent X-Ray technician experience and credentials. Our MSCCN Job Placement Specialist, Celeste Snyder, submitted Hains resume directly to a Concentra recruiter in December of 2007, and stayed involved within Concentra’s hiring process of Mr Hains during a 2-month timeframe. In February 2008, Concentra interviewed Hains and the rest is history, as they say. “I tried Monster, as well as all of the usual job boards and employment services available to the military,” said Hains, “MSCCN was the only organization that actually called me and offered personal one-on-one guidance into my job request.” “I knew the career field I wanted to be in and I knew the organization I wanted to work for, I found an open job position from the MSCCN web site that satisfied all of my employment wish list items,” continued Hains. “MSCCN worked for 2 months diligently to get me hired with Concentra. MSCCN never gave up.” |
